Rick Poynor says it best

Great quote from a text I just finished:
"The consumerist status quo pumps out a vast, overwhelming, massively-resourced slurry of consciousness-shaping propaganda.
What on earth is wrong with producing and taking support from some alternative points of view?
" (Poynor, 2006 p.60—61)

Hey Bex, great new site! I'll be telling all my design pals over here about it - you can never have too much info in an industry as environmentally damaging as ours. Keep up the good work!

Becky,
You once told me that sport is not dead, it just hides in the heart of the suburbs... you inspired me then, and now here you are inspiring me on a whole new level !! You are a bloody legend, I love your new site, I love your moxie, and I hope that you reach out and shake a few sleeping beatles off the branches.

Id never thought about sustainability in graphic design, apart from annoying junk mail in the letterbox. I didnt realise that glossy pages were a recycling problem.
I feel v. guilty about my Gardening Australia magazines (although they preach sustainability and I do keep them for reference).
I compared that mag to Earth Garden, which is mostly non-glossy and printed with soya inks, and Im now wondering....why, as a society do we need glossy pages? If its a case of..."well we just do it like that"...can we change societies thinking??? If so (and surely we can!)....how???

So write to 'em, Megs! It's dead easy for them to choose better paper. It's what they employ graphic designers FOR!

As for changing society's thinking,, that's a hard one. Start small I guess. I just changed yours, so maybe you shoudl pass it on. Want a poster? *chuckle*
